T20 World Cup 2022: “Shakib will slap the 3rd referee after the match

Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan has once again found himself at the center of events after being controversially left out against Pakistan on Saturday, November 6, at the 2022 T20 World Cup. The all-rounder lost his wicket from the very first delivery of his innings and found himself walking towards the pavilion despite being examined.

The skipper came to the crease of the knockout contest at the Adelaide Ring after Soumya Sarkar’s wicket fell. Shakib tried to guide a very full delivery from Shadab Khan to the side of the leg but failed to connect which led to the ball hitting his pads.

The Pakistani players immediately appealed, but the referee took his time giving a late verdict and declaring Shakib out. The all-rounder is reviewed without any consultation or hesitation.

Replays showed a spike when the bat was close to the bat, but to complicate matters, the bat was also close to the ground. After several frames and angles, it was arguably pretty conclusive that the bat wasn’t touching the ground and the tip was indeed a true inside edge.

However, third referee Langton Rusere didn’t feel the same way and asked the on-field referee to stick with his decision. Shakib was completely in disbelief after the decision was not overturned. He was seen having a long chat with the referees before finally leaving the pitch.

Twitter was in disbelief after witnessing the referee’s gaffe. Here are some of the reactions on the social media platform:

Shakib clearly wasn’t out, very poor third referee, everyone saw the trajectory of the ball change first towards the shoe and then away #PAKvsBAN

What is this nonsense!! Poor quality or corrupt or bribed third referees given for poor Shakib Al hasaan.
